ヨーロッパ、北アメリカ及びニュージーランドなどに広く分布し、日本では本州から採集されている。メスは長翅型 と短翅型、オスは短翅型のみが知られる。本種の長翅型メスの触角第４節の腹面には小さな感覚錐様の器官を多数持つことで特異であるが、短翅型ではそれを持たない。温帯域の枯れ木から得られる。食菌性。
